There was commotion in a Santa Fe courtroom Friday as an ex-Robertson football player who plead guilty in a sexual assault of teammates was sentenced to time behind bars.
Jerik Padilla will serve nine months in juvenile detention and then be paroled. He pleaded guilty months ago to helping rape fellow teammates after a hazing ritual at a football camp.
After the sentencing, Padilla’s family and the family of one of the victims got into a shouting match at the courtroom. A court officer had to separated the feuding sides with a stun gun in hand.
Padilla is the first of two players to take a plea deal.
Santiago Armijo, who has already entered a not guilty plea, is expected to become the second player to accept a plea deal. He could be sentenced next week.
The trial for the rest of players is expected to start later this year.
