Good Samaritan Law to Prevent Alcohol Deaths

While no Good Samaritan law is perfect, the father of an alcohol-related hazing victim argues convincingly that it is better to have such a law in place than to lose a son or daughter because someone feared calling 911 for fear of getting a criminal record. Kudos to Mr. George Starks of Salt Lake City and his son and daughter for their hard work in getting Utah legislators to put this protective law on the books. Link to story.

ABC story on sororities

Hi all: here is an ABC-TV web story on sorority hazing. My position continues to be that we need actual surveys (or at least a noticeable spike in sorority hazing news stories) before we can get an
idea on whether hazing practices truly are escalating or becoming more violent. The numbers in high school athletic hazing, for example, can be counted to make a case for such a spike since the late 1990s. I’ll keep an eye out for sorority hazing in the news, but though the violent or bizarre cases grab headlines,,,I’m not sure this amounts to a nationwide trend. I’d want more evidence before making such a statement unilaterally. Thanks.
