One concerned parent uses photos to finally cause a school to wake up–but even then a Lawrence Central educator just doesn’t get the definition of hazing

Link to the story is here. Note that Lawrence Central’s hazing policy supports the improper notion that only “against their will” hazing IS hazing.

Note from Debbie Smith re Matt’s Law

Hi Everyone

Tomorrow Matt’s Law will be heard by the Assembly Appropriations Committee at 9am in Room 4202, along with between 200 and 400 other bills, this will make for a very long day but well worth it if we can get the results we need.  So wear you red, and your Matt badges if you have them, tomorrow in support and I will let you know how it turns out.

If all goes well our bill will go on suspense for a week then move onto the Assembly Floor where we will need a majority vote to send it to the Governor’s desk.

Things are looking good but there is still work to be done.  If you haven’t already please start writing your letters to the remaining Assembly Members that are not on either of the Committees that have or will be hearing the bill tomorrow.  There are 58 Members left after tomorrow that will not have voted on Matt’s Law yet.  So disregard any names on the Assembly Public Safety or Appropriations, unless of course someone on Appropriations votes against it tomorrow then we will write that person again.

All names and addresses can be found on Matt’s site, clicking on Matt’s Law then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Your Legislature everything you need can be found within this link.

If you could write to the Assembly Speaker And your representatives that would be great if you can write to more that would be even better.  But if possible try to write at least one letter.

Assembly Speaker
Fabio Nunez
State Capitol
PO Box 942849
Sacramento, CA 94249-0046

I have got to run, thank you so much for your support I will let know what happens at the hearing tomorrow.

“Hug your children and tell them you love them everyday.”

Love,
Debbie, MM

Saints and short-term memory

The New Orleans Saints, the team that once was humiliated under then-Coach Mike Ditka when rookies

Jeff Danish and Cam Cleveland were pummeled in a gang-like hazing, have begun the custom again in a minor way.

HAZY ON HAZING: Reggie Bush may have a new $62 million contract and the attention of the sporting world, but that doesn’t exempt him from rookie hazing.

The Saints’ top pick has been made to carry pads by his teammates and he had to perform a song recently for the veterans with the other rookies.

When asked about his performance, Bush showed his trademark elusiveness: “It was nothing special.”

He flashed an embarrassed grin as reporters prepared to ask for more details, at which point a New Orleans public relations deftly threw a block and ended Bush’s media session.
