Clover hazing fails to meet criminal standards

But clearly hazing of a lesser nature occurred.  There is more damage control in this story than one would expect.  Perhaps understandable, given all the bad press Clover has received.  Perhaps not.  A reminder to all reporters to separate fact from statement.

And as far as victim and participant and bystander statements occur, look only to today’s coverage of Manitoba Junior hockey to see how young kids will cover up to protect a coach or teammate.  Hazing is one of the tougher crimes or (lesser cases) infractions for a journalist or police force to prove. Arrest of 15 Tau Kappa Epsilon members for alleged physical hazing stuns Longwood College campus

Longwood Suspends Frat, 16 Charged In Hazing Probe

FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) – Longwood University has suspended a fraternity and more than a dozen people face charges following a hazing investigation.

In a statement posted Wednesday on its website, Longwood says 16 members and associates of Tau Kappa Epsilon have been arrested.

The school’s Fraternity and Sorority Life office learned about allegations of hazing within TKE’s Rho Kappa chapter in early September and notified the Longwood University Police Department.

Longwood didn’t provide details but it says more arrests are expected. The investigation by university police and the Farmville Police Department is continuing.

The suspects face judicial charges through Longwood’s honor and judicial programs.
