Clinton High School (Iowa) mass hazing: Quad City Times

Here is the update and an excerpt

CLINTON, Iowa — After hearing more than three hours of testimony, the Clinton School Board unanimously affirmed the suspension of a student over hazing of freshman football team members during homecoming week.

Daylan Ludemann, a senior on the football team at Clinton High School, was among about a dozen students suspended over the incident that involved chasing, paddling and bullying the freshman students.

The students received five-day out-of-school suspensions and separate good-conduct suspensions from activities.

Ludemann appealed the four-week, good-conduct suspension to the school board. He returned to school last week after serving the out-of-school suspension. An open hearing was held Monday night at the student’s request.

Freshman football coach Dan Sullivan described the scene as “chaos.”

As the freshman players left the building after their game, the doors locked behind them. Sullivan said he and two other coaches heard noises and looked to see what was going on outside.

The coach said 30 to 40 people, all dressed in dark clothing and some wearing masks, were chasing the freshmen players around the field and the area around the school. Some carried what looked like bats or sticks and some were hitting the players. Sullivan said after yelling at them, the assailants finally left and he got the players who were still there back inside and called 911 because he was not sure if anyone was hurt or needed medical attention.

CHS associate principal Lisa Toppert said she interviewed a number of students and an administrative team worked together to determine the punishments against those students whose participation was confirmed by reports from at least two separate students.

Foothill High School (Calif.) hazing called an obscene act. Why no criminal investigation?

All: here is another case that the school alone is investigating.
Details of what occurred are absent.

Foothill High School is coming down hard on hazing. Six football players from the freshman-sophomore football team were suspended following reports of locker room bullying.

“Basically it was an obscene act being performed on other players,” said Brenda Lewis, Foothill High School’s principal. “And it was said after the act a few times, ‘now you are part of the team.'”

That obscene act involved players simulating sex. School officials said it happened to players several times until one  reported it to the coaching staff.

“We support students and students should not be afraid to speak up if they feel they were bullied or intimidated in any kind of way,” Lewis said.

School officials said they investigated the incident and suspended the students involved for three days. Those students have also been kicked off the football team for the rest of the season.

Varsity football team members said their younger teammates were acting immaturely.

“As guys, you know, we do play around in the locker room and stuff, but that can get carried away sometimes,” said varsity kicker Thomas Contreras. “You really got to know when to stop and when it’s not right.”

“It wasn’t a smart move for the freshman to do that but they are immature and soon enough they will get to know that that’s not the right thing to do,” said Ryan Rangle, also a varsity kicker.
