LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Two students charged with hazing in connection with a fatal Lincoln fire have been given pretrial diversion, so they won’t face trial.
Misdemeanor charges were dropped for 23-year-old Jed Tompkins of Crete and 21-year-old Lance Daharsh of Lincoln.
They were charged during the investigation into a fraternity house fire at Nebraska Wesleyan University last year. Another student died.
A Diversion Services official says diversion includes community service.
Another student, 22-year-old Brandon Lovegrove of Grafton, pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempted arson for a fire unrelated to the one that killed 19-year-old Ryan Stewart of Ord.
Lovegrove’s trial is set for January.
